Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Ration Book is built so that it does not need to know who you are. This policy explains what the app stores, where, and why.

In short

  • No account or sign-up is required to use the app.
  • Your household details and ration book inventory are stored on your device, not on a server we run.
  • We don't sell your data, because we don't have it.

What the app stores, and where

When you set up your household — postcode, number of adults, children, babies and pets — that information is saved locally on your iPhone. The same applies to your checklist progress and your ration book inventory, including anything added by barcode scan and its expiry date. None of this is uploaded to us. If you delete the app, it's gone.

What leaves your device

A small number of lookups need an internet connection to work at all, and these are the only times the app talks to a server:

  • Postcode lookup, during setup, to find your local area information (council, nearby services). We send the postcode you entered to perform the lookup; we don't retain a record tying it to you.
  • Barcode lookup, when you scan an item, to identify the product so you don't have to type it in. We send the barcode, not anything about you.

Everything else — your checklist, your inventory, your local info card once fetched, and the offline library — works without a connection, which is rather the point of an emergency-prep app.

Analytics and crash reports

If we add basic, privacy-respecting crash or usage analytics in future (to see which parts of the app are actually useful, and to fix what breaks), this policy will be updated first, and nothing will be tied to your household contents or location beyond what's described above.

Children's data

You may record that your household includes children or babies to size the checklist correctly. This is a count, not a profile — we don't collect names, ages, or any other detail about anyone in your household.

Your rights

Because your data lives on your device and not on our servers, you control it directly: delete the app, or clear its data in iOS Settings, and it's gone. If you have questions about this policy or how the app handles your information, email hello@rationbook.uk.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will change with it. Any change that meaningfully affects how your data is handled will also be noted in the app's release notes.

Not a government service
